Ambitious

Best of luck man. That's some dedication. Probably emerge with some major improvements. I look forward to seeing you evolve over the year.

J-qb responds:

Thanks, I certainly do hope I'll improve from this, that's basically the goal.

post a link to your reference.

Flowers10 responds:

Because you asked so nicely!

Nope

Dude filter raping a photo isn't a drawing. I can see where you've tried to make 'corrections' to the output. But it still looks like a filter raped photo. My advice to you is to take it down before it gets deleted by the mods. This is sooooo lazy on top of that. The 'corrections are half assed. The first time the hair dips of right you got white background showing through. All of your edges are wonky. You smoothed the hair, but nothing else? All those other lines cry out to be clean. And you didn't even completely paint over the white with the leaf brush. Totally lazy.

HugoVRB responds:

How about now motherfucker?

that's some good stuff right there.

This is just a damn fine piece of work. Composition. Color. Like the rendering style. The only thing that bothers me is that background aqua color. It seems a bit drab, and disconnected. But that's really nitpicky. This is a great piece, and you should be proud of it.

TyraWM responds:

Fixed it... or made it worse

Well now I really hate you

Not only are you really fucking talented, but you're also a Puscifer fan.

Seriously though. Great piece. Like the color choices.

skarl3tte responds:

Puscifer's freaking awesome. :D Maynard James Keenan is amazing.

reeaallly good

The coloring is perfect. It's nicely balanced. And it moves well. Colors are bold and evocative. But then again they always are in your pieces. The transition from her legs to water is a little abrupt. And the anatomy is a little off. Nothing that couldn't be fixed with the liquify tool. If you catch me on stick cam sometime I could be more specific.

ImpendingRiot responds:

Thanks man, will do. In fact, I've caught you right now

It's really good.

Damn good. think it's the best I've seen from you. The composition could use a little work. It's a little static. Everything is on one depth, and it's a straight profile view. Could be a little more dynamic. But the rendering, lighting, color, and texture are spot on. Well done.

Havegum responds:

Thanks for saying that! I don't really like it myself, I was actually debating even sticking it in the art portal.
Looking at it in retrospective, I'd say it's too messy, and that the colors don't make sense at some spots. Thanks for the review though!
Happy friday flood!

It was good in WIP

And it's good now. The only thing that bothers me is that it's so balanced in some ways that I want to make it completely symmetrical. For me, it kinda rests in a uneasy place. We have a center focus, but then our eyes aren't sure where to go next.

Fifty-50 responds:

Yeah, thanks for the crit occluded! I know it very confusing looking at the pic. I have been troubled by this ever since I started coloring it. But I said what the heck, it couldn't be that bad. But I was wrong.

Also not surprised

Like this background texture much better than the wood. Really this thing is spot on. I don't know how you could improve upon this. Maybe a little more texture in the tail-feathers? It's great.

J-qb responds:

Hah that tail is gonna keep following me to the grave isnt it ;)
nah jk, thanks for the review, I like this better than the wood too; When Ive been working on something for too long at a stretch I lose the ability to properly judge certain things. Thats why its always a good idea to come back to a drawing a few days after you have "finished" it.

Nicely done

I think the sand actually looks spot on. Maybe too formally done compared to the rest of the piece. The perspective. The solid chunky clouds. The wavy green sky. They all seem like different style choices than the sand, and to a lesser extent the water. Like it almost gets less formal as you move deeper into the piece.

I like it though. Good solution with the wet sand.

Luwano responds:

This review is making me so damn happy. I know my clouds are not good and I'm not satisfied with them myself, but I wanted to have that transition from a real foreground to a more unreal background. That's also why I took that strong saturated green. So different styles or not, I'm really happy the effect I was going for seemed to work just a little.

I've got your nose!
