Could be amazing

This game could be amazing were it not for some little things. There's a glitch where if a depot in your line is destroyed occasionally survivors will run all the way around the damn level to get to another depot. Ran into this a few times playing random maps. My survivors have no survival instincts.

But my biggest annoyance is with action priority. For example the sniper tower construction priority. I would build sniper towers and allocate (lets say) 5 guys to them. Well before there was ammo in the tower I'd have 5 guys sitting in the damn tower. If there's no ammo shouldn't one get that first? This would also happen when a tower was missing wood. Which I guess means it wasn't really built yet. So I got 5 dudes sitting in an unfinished tower with no ammo in it getting destroyed by zombies. That is frustrating as hell. Also upgrading the range. I can do everything else in advance why do I have to wait for the exact second a survivor is in a connecting depot to upgrade the range. If you can't think of an elegant system for prioritizing actions. I would think it would add to the challange to be able to set those priorities manually. Not just with sniper towers, but how much resources are gathered into any given depot.

This could be a great game if it was just a bit more elegant. And I gotta give you props for how fun it is otherwise. Graphics are a bit cartoony for me. If you ever need a graphics guy feel free to drop me a line.

It's nigh impossible to use

It's nigh impossible to use because you don't know how to make functional buttons. With just the slightest effort you can make whole areas around text clickable. Take the time. As it is it's not worth passing through the portal

...

I'm not saying it's bad. It's just. It's Arkanoid. The name pretty much points to the homage. But I got to thinking... Why wouldn't I just play arkanoid? What makes this game better?

Even without tweaking the game. The graphics need work. They don't have personality or consistency. Pick an Idea for the graphics and work around that Idea. Fun and bright? Then why the fatigued metal border? Why the dull colors for the blocks and the ball? Sure they have a glossy feel tp them. But that seems like an afterthought. There were no choices made with the graphics. It looks like you made something and, if you liked it, it stayed with no thought to how it fit in with the other elements. No where is this more appearent than the background. Which is the same value as the foreground. It's hard to visually keep track of the ball.

Pick a theme or an idea and redo the graphics at least. I may seem harsh, but I'm trying to help.

Now there is this new version. Plz try it.

Yeah!

This is awesome. I'm proud to be a part of it. Thanks again Luis. It looks great.

I hope I get into next years.

Pretty good.

However there is something going on with your hit tests. part of it might be sonic moving at some off pixel rate. But sometimes he'll be shunted off to either side of a platform if he's not completely on. Also just a touch of the left or right arrow is more than enough to move him from the left side of a block to completely off the right side. This lack of finesse in the controls is a bit frustrating.

The idea itself is not very interesting. I'd like to see you try to make something that is more your own. especially if you're going to invest all the time in actionscripting it.

good graphics

The graphics were great but they slowed the game down. The gameplay itself was a bit boring and repedative. You can't really lose. Even if you could I don't know that it would improve the gameplay. There is no tension. With defense games the tension comes from the enemy getting past you. The opposite (not getting a guy past) doesn't grab my attention at all. It's all about redundancy. The multiple paths for instance. Why would anyone use more than one? Half the time they would block off the other paths.

A key would be nice. I get what the dollar sign (money) and the cross (health) do, but what does that damn smiley face do?

Oh yes I too got the last level bug. And I notice it didn't save my top score in the last 3(?) levels.

Fun play

Fun to play. Controls felt a little sluggish.

The graphics could use a little finessing. Push for a style that's more uniquly your own. It looked like you were drawing things without much considering how they related to the other objects in the game. Line weight (thickness) is a great place to start.

Loved the social commentary at the start of the game. Truely hilarious.

For iSight users

If this doesn't work immediatly with your iSight make sure your settings are correct.

Right-click (control click for you one button crazies) on any Flash movie and choose "Settings...", then click on the camera icon. Choose "IIDC FireWire Video" from the menu.

The back buton...

The back button in the inventory screen doesn't work.

Does anyone remember....

Does anyone remember a game called S.C.OUT? This reminded me alot of that game. Don't get me wrong here you've got a very original game here. It's just the gameplay feels similar.

As is the nature of critique the following are ways I feel your game could be better. Things to keep in mind for the next incarnation. This is a good game that plays well. But everything can be better, right?

I think you could get a better feel here if all the elementa of the game were in some way related. Either in some inherit quality or style of graphics. Like there were trees growing on a tiled floor. Dinosaur/Godzilla things, Spiders, Eye/Beholder things, all being navigted by a car. None of these are related in anyway. I know they don't 'have to be'. But if they aren't going to be then you should go further in that direction. Make each part even less related. To the poit of absurdity. Right now they are just resting in this uncomforatable grey area.

I've got your nose!
